Frequently Asked Questions

Can I extend my warranty?  Yes!  Check out the details in our Sales Department.

Can I watch my bike being serviced?  Yes!  We have a service waiting area adjacent the service bays where customers can relax with some coffee and watch repairs through large bay windows.  If you prefer, you can catch up on the latest cycle magazines, watch bike videos or tune in SpeedVison on our new satellite hook-up.  John may also authorize customers limited access into the service area on a short, case-by-case basis.

Will you repair any BMW motorcycle?  We would be happy to service any model from 1955 to present.  Limited parts availability for early models makes repairs of these fine machines a case-by-case basis.  Call John to evaluate repair options for early bikes.

Are your service technicians factory trained and certified?  Service, inspections and extensive repairs will be accomplished by fully trained and certified technicians.  We are especially proud of Paul's scores on the BMW Master Technician tests.  Matthew, John and Peter are currently certified as a BMW Technician, but have exhibited the talent, accuracy, and dependability  to join the Master Technician ranks with further factory training!

Can I receive emergency repairs if traveling through the Tucson area?  Yes!  We're all riders and we understand your concern for timely repairs that get you back on schedule.  Experienced riders work with their dealers to make sure their bikes are properly serviced before hitting the long road.  If you anticipate the possibility of needing tires or routine service while visiting the great Southwest, please call us ahead of time and we'll schedule you in advance to minimize your "down" time.

Can I arrange for routine service or inspections while visiting Tucson from afar?  Absolutely!  Please call or email John ahead of time so he can schedule your service.

I lost my BMW service booklet.  Can you help me document my service history?  Yes, we can provide you a printout of all of your service and repairs performed at Iron Horse Motorcycles.  However, due to the time and effort involved in finding and printing the repair orders, we reserve the right to charge a fee.

Do your technician's test ride my bike after service?  Yes.  Our techs take a short loop through the city as a final part of every service, inspection, and major repair.

I picked up a nail in my new tubeless tire.  Will you patch it?  No.  We view the condition of tires to be paramount in rider safety.  While we have heard a few stories of patches lasting the life of the tire, we consider patches to be a temporary, emergency procedure to allow riders the opportunity to carefully make it to a shop for a replacement tire.

If I come to the shop with a new tire that wasn't purchased at Iron Horse, will you mount and balance it?  Yes.  We have a dedicated tire changing machine and can statically balance your tires.  We charge a basic fee of $25 (plus weights) for customers who remove/install their own wheels from the bike.  Prices for having our techs remove/install the wheel vary.  Call or email John for an estimate.

Will you perform a "partial" service or inspection?  Yes.  We annotate service records and adjust prices accordingly.

Do you stock "Brand-X" tires?  We keep Metzeler tires in stock, and occasionally have other brands.  If you would like another brand mounted on your bike, please call and give us about a week to order the tire.

Can I just show up at Iron Horse whenever I need my bike serviced?  Not unless you feel extraordinarily lucky.  We average about a 2-week backlog for weekday appointments and a 3-week backlog for weekends year round.  Please call or email John to schedule the best date for service.

What should I do if service doesn't meet my expectations?  By all means contact John!  We endeavor to provide you and your BMW motorcycle the best service and parts available.  If you don't let us know you've got problems (even small problems) with our service, then we won't be in a position to make improvements.  Of course, we also like to hear the good news, too!
